About Us
Brice Station vineyards began its wine journey in the early 1990's as an idea, and a dream, for Stuart Mast. With the help of some unfortunate uncontrollable events, Stuart, a 5th generation farmer, was able to make his dream a reality...
“The honest truth is we lost all our timber in the Old Gulch fire in 1992,” Mast recalled. “At 3,300 feet, I thought our elevation was too high for a vineyard. We were standing in six inches of snow when John Baritelle, a good friend with a Napa Valley vineyard, said we could do it. He told me he would teach me anything I wanted to know about growing premium wine grapes.”
“We stuck with Bordeaux varietals – cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc and merlot – because they push out their buds later in the spring after the danger of frost. It’s really worked out well,” he smiled. “I think we’re one of the highest-elevation vineyards in California.”
